What is Lime Slurry?
What is Lime?
Lime is a calcium-containing inorganic material in which carbonates, oxides, and hydroxides predominate. In the strict sense of the term, lime is calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide. It is also the name of the natural mineral (native lime) CaO which occurs as a product of coal seam fires and in altered limestone xenoliths in volcanic ejecta.
What is Slurry?
A slurry is a thin sloppy mud or cement or, in extended use, any fluid mixture of a pulverized solid with a liquid (usually water), often used as a convenient way of handling solids in bulk. Slurries behave in some ways like thick fluids, flowing under gravity but are also capable of being pumped if not too thick.
Its easy to know lime slurry is a suspension of calcium hydroxide in water. Lime Slurry(Limestone Slurry) is a versatile, cost effective product widely used in industry for a number of diverse applications.
Common uses for Lime Slurry(Limestone Slurry)
It’s most common use is to clean coal burning power plants, where it is used to remove sulphur dioxide deposits left over from burnt coal.
Gypsum – a by-product of the Lime Slurry process – is then pumped around the power plant, for intended use in the production of drywall boarding for building construction.
Detoxification of environmentally hazardous by-products from manufacturing is also one if it’s key applications.
